State Achievement Testing Begins April 9

Between April 9th and April 24th Laveen School District students will participate in state achievement testing.

Students in Grades three through eight will take Arizona’s Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching (AzMERIT). The AzMERIT test measures students’ skills in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics. Students in Grades four and eight will continue to take the AIMS science test, in addition to AzMERIT. Students who are enrolled in an Algebra or Geometry class, will also take an AzMERIT end of course (EOC) assessment, in addition to their grade level ELA and mathematics assessments.

School Breakfast Week is March 5-9

National School Breakfast Week is March 5-9. Your child won’t want to miss out on this special event! Laveen’s school cafeterias will be featuring your child’s favorites like breakfast burritos, whole grain donuts, and french toast. Plus, we’ll have special guests helping to serve breakfast. Students who participate in breakfast this week will receive a free 100% fruit slushy at lunch.

4th Annual Laveen Spring Arts Festival is April 6

Join us for the 4th Annual Laveen Spring Arts Festival on April 6. The event will feature numerous arts and crafts vendors, craft activities for children, Laveen student performances, and food. Entrance to the event is free. Tickets will be sold to participate in the activities.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Foundation which provides scholarships to Laveen 8th grade students entering high school and former Laveen students entering college.

The event takes place from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Laveen Education Center Lawn, 5001 W. Dobbins.

Trailside Point student honored at MLK breakfast


Trailside Point seventh grader Berdina Riggs took 1st Place in Arizona State University’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  art contest.

Her winning poster features a flower with the petals representing flags from various countries. The backdrop is the American flag with this year’s theme of “Look Deeper, Speak Louder” written across the stripes.

Riggs was honored at ASU’s 33rd annual breakfast accompanied by her mother; principal, Sarah Zembruski; superintendent, Dr. Bill Johnson; and teacher, Betty Ehret.  Her artwork was featured on a bookmark provided to attendees.

Kindergarten Round Up is February 6 for Students Starting in August 2018

Parents with students starting Kindergarten in August 2018 are invited to register their child during our annual Kindergarten Round Up event on February 6 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. You will also have the opportunity to meet the teachers and visit kindergarten classrooms. Children registered on this date will receive a free gift.

Kindergarten Round Up will take place at all Laveen schools with the exception of Vista del Sur, which requires an assessment prior to enrolling. Kindergartners enrolled at Paseo Pointe must be part of the Dual Language Immersion program, a 50/50 model where students spend half their day in a classroom where teaching and learning is conducted in Spanish and the other half in English.

Students may be enrolled in any of our schools regardless of where they live, space permitting. Families living outside of a particular school’s transportation zone will be responsible for providing transportation.

Please bring the following items to register your child.
* Proof of Residence (examples include: utility bill, rental agreement, mortgage statement, etc.)
* Child’s Immunization Record
* Child’s Original Birth Certificate (copies not accepted)
* Parent/Guardian’s Photo ID

Children must be 5 years old on or before August 31, 2018 to register. Children turning 5 after August 31, but by December 31, may be evaluated for early entrance in May.

Laveen offers free Full Day Kindergarten at all schools.
